Part 1: Getting Started

Chapter 1: Creating Account

• Introduction

  Before you may begin programming your very own bot, there are a few things you must do first. You must create 2 accounts with AOL Instant Messenger, register one account with us, and test your logins over AIM and Lots-A-Bots(TM) to verify that your accounts are working. This will save on a lot of aggravation on your end and ours as well. The following sections in this chapter go through each step in detail to assist you in starting up.

• Screen Names

  The first step is registering a couple of accounts with AIM. If you do not have the AOL instant Messenger software, please download it from the AIM website, or simply click here. You are going to need one for yourself and one for your bot. If you already have an account for yourself, you need to only create one. If you already have an AIM account that you use for a bot at a different bot service, and would like to move it over to Lots-A-Bots(TM), you may do so and move on to "Regisration" below and please help us out by emailing us with the screen name. Every once in awhile a bot from another service ends up in our blocking list, so it would be best if we are aware of the issue. Click the following to let us know about the bot you will be moving:
  
  To get your AIM account(s) either visit the AIM website or simply click here. Give them the information that they require. After you create your screen name(s), they will send you an email to verify. Respond to that email with the instructions provided. At this point your account has been created. Sign on AIM and verify that the screen name(s) and password(s) are correct.
  When you sign on AIM with your bot's account, go to your buddy list setup and delete all foders except the one labeled "buddies". Then go to your preferences from the pulldown menu (My AIM... Edit Options... Edit Preferences... Buddy List) and make sure that adding buddies to the "recent buddies" group is not selected. Save your changes and sign off.
  You are now ready to move on to registration with Lots-A-Bots(TM)

• Registration With LAB

  To register with our site, start by clicking the register button towards the top of this site. Fill out the form, being certain to provide us with the proper information. Please note that we are asking for your BOT'S AIM screen name. Be sure to read the user end agreement and the privacy/coppa policy. If you are under 13 years old, do not check the box indicating that you are older. Enter in the code displayed at the bottom of the form and submit. An email will be sent to you with an activation key to start up your LAB account.

• Test Log-in

  Once your account is activated, we ask that you test your login. Click the login button towards the top of the page of this site. Enter your BOT'S screen name, the AIM password for your bot, the code, and login. If your entries are invalid, an error will be displayed.
